The Chicago Bears scored 14 points in the fourth quarter, including a go-ahead rushing touchdown by Caleb Williams to complete the comeback against the New York Giants in Week 10. With the win, Chicago goes to 6-3 on the season and are still well in range to capture and earn the NFC North title this year.
It honestly feels like a bit of a dream right now, but the Bears are a legitimate football team, and they clearly are not the Bears of old. First-year head coach Ben Johnson has made quick work of this team, but a ton of credit goes to GM Ryan Poles as well, as the roster he built was better than people thought.
Chicago still has eight games left, but this team is trending in the right direction, and the second-year QB seems to be making a bit of a leap in a crucial second year. It's not been great for a few other QBs in their second year in the NFL, so what Williams has done has been great to witness.
Colston Loveland calls Caleb Williams a unicorn after the Bears' huge win in Week 10
During his rookie season, Williams was sacked 68 times in 17 games, which was a whopping 4 times per game. This season, Williams has been able to use his legs a lot more, and his teammates are taking notice, including rookie tight end Colston Loveland.
Here is what Loveland had to say about Williams in the locker room after the huge win:
“He’s a unicorn, for sure. I’m like, how is he not sacked right now? He’s just running around, super slippery.”
The one thing that Caleb Williams has done well thus far is avoiding the sacks. Sure, the offensive line investments have helped, as Poles totally remade the interior, but Williams is being sacked at a much lesser rate than he was during his rookie season. He's been sacked just 14 times in nine games, which comes out to a measly 1.56 sacks per game.
This was and is a great part of Williams' game, too. While he did get sacked a ton in 2024, he's also someone who is generally hard to take down. Being able to create plays with his legs is going to be huge down the stretch, as Chicago will most certainly be in more close games and might need their franchise QB to take matters into his own hands, kind of like he did here in Week 10.
