When the Chicago Bears retooled the interior of the offensive line during the offseason, and subsequently had a training camp battle for the starting job at left tackle, right tackle Darnell Wright largely fell below the radar beyond the general hope he'd become more consistent and take another step in his third season.

Wright entered Week 10 as Pro Football Focus' sixth-highest graded offensive tackle (82.0 overall grade) with the second-best run blocking grade at the position (87.3). As a pass blocker, he allowed just one sack and six pressures through his first seven games (he missed Week 4 due to injury). Penaltires were a bit of a thing early in the season, but he has just one accepted infraction over his last five games (counting Week 10 against the New York Giants).

According to PFF, Wright allowed two pressures on 45 pass blocking snaps against the Giants, but in a bit of contradiction they gave him a dismal 56.1 pass blocking grade for the game. So he will drop a little bit among his peers based on his PFF grade, but he'll still be top-tier in that respect.

Darnell Wright now has the opening clip for his Pro Bowl highlight reel

The Bears were on the ropes in the fourth quarter on Sunday, trailing the Giants 20-10 and facing third-and-10 from their own 26-yard line with about five and a half minutes left. Caleb Williams connected with tight end Colston Loveland for a 20-yard gain to move the chains and keep comeback hopes alive.

In the moment, it may have been easy to overlook what Wright did to buy Williams time.

Additional angles make it even better.

With one arm, Wright stonewalled a spin move from Giants' edge rusher Brian Burns. Burns, a two-time Pro Bowler with a tied for league-high 11 sacks this season, is no obviously no slouch and Wright made him look like a Day 3 draft pick who's ill-equipped to try such things.

It's easy for an offensive tackle to be thrown off-balance by a well-executed spin move. Some Hall of Fame pass rusher resumes have been made off spin-moves. Wright combating Burns the way he did is now sure to become teaching tape for offensive line coaches for how to stop spin moves.

Wright is very athletic for a man his size, but he got out of his stance cleanly and quickly, which cut off Burns' upfield angle and forced him to counter with a spin move. Wright kept perfect balance, feet and shoulders in perfect harmony....

Then, boom, a stiff-arm Walter Payton would be proud of.

Not only did Wright create a clip offensive tackles can learn from, going against one of the best edge rushers in the NFL, he also created the opening clip of his 2025 Pro Bowl/All-Pro campaign as long as he continues to perform as he as over the rest of the season.
