In the Chicago Bears' 26-14 win over the New Orleans Saints, the offense didn't exactly have a great first quarter, with quarterback Caleb Williams making the biggest mistake of the game.
On the third drive of the first quarter, Williams was trying to hit wide receiver Rome Odunze on an out route to the sidelines. Still, Saints cornerback Quincy Riley jumped the route perfectly for an interception in plus territory for New Orleans.
That interception was Williams' third on the year, a rare sight seen through the first six games of the season. While it looked like Riley had tight coverage on Odunze, fans never really know the whole story behind a play or why it turned into a turnover.
Until now.
Bears fans found out what happened on the Williams interception
During his media availability, Bears offensive coordinator Declan Doyle was asked about the interception by Williams and what happened. Doyle clearly broke down what happened on the play that led to the turnover.
"We just missed. He left the ball inside. That’s an out cut that really is a toe-tap on the sidelines. You can’t leave the football inside there. The corner was able to drive on it and make a play. Obviously, when you watch the tape, he knows right away. As soon as he comes off the field, he knows. We just missed on that one."
Off-target throws have been something Williams has been criticized for over the last few games. His completion percentage this season is currently 61.1%, which is just 1% lower than where he was last year in his rookie season.
Bears fans have to remember that Williams is only in his second season, and some mistakes will happen. For the most part, he has been great about protecting the football, with the earlier-mentioned three interceptions in six games being a good ratio.

Williams will have time to fix it and move on to the next game, which is something he has been good at doing with short-term memory.
