It would be an understatement to see the Chicago Bears' 2025 rookie draft class has been a massive disappointment.
One of their top picks, defensive lineman Shemar Turner, hasn't even been active for either of their first two games of the season. What's the reason, and when will fans see him on the field?
Bears defensive coordinator Dennis Allen answered that question during his media availability on Thursday where he answer the million dollar question on everyone's mind in Chicago.
"Really, it's just continue to work in practice. He missed a lot of time in training camp, but I think he's turning a corner. ... And then it's about taking advantage of the opportunity when it comes on game day."

So will he play or what is going on?
Turner was a second-team All-SEC selection in 2023 with the Texas A&M Aggies after posting 11 tackles for loss and six sacks on the season. He showed more of his ability to stop the run during his senior season last year before the Bears selected him in the second round of the 2025 season.
During training camp, Turner dealt with an ankle injury that kept him out until about midway through August. He would end up not being active for any preseason game for the Bears.
It certainly feels as though the Bears are doing their due diligence in not rushing Turner onto the field, but at what cost? The defense is currently ranked 28th in total defense, allowing 382.5 yards per game, and 27th against the run, with teams rushing for 148.5 yards per game on them.
Chicago can't really afford to not let Turner get some reps on the field, even just for a little. Grady Jarrett is already playing through injury and isn't 100%.

The Bears are in desperate need of a win against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, and it wouldn't hurt for Turner to get some playing time out there. He might surprise Allen and the coaching staff with his play.
