The 2025 Chicago Bears draft class was about as impressive as it could have been, filled with plenty of talent.
What really helped the class was the impact of non-first-round picks on the Bears with Ozzy Trapilo, Luther Burden III, and Kyle Monangai. Of course, the star of the draft class was the Bears' first-round pick tight end, Colston Loveland, who ESPN NFL Draft expert Matt Miller expects to have a breakout 2026 season.
"Chicago's offense is suddenly flush with young, talented pass catchers, but it's Loveland who could be its breakout star. He was on fire at the end of last season, recording 26 receptions for 370 yards and two TDs in Chicago's final four games (including the playoffs). Loveland was at times the focal point of coach Ben Johnson's offense, which should continue in 2026 -- especially with wide receiver DJ Moore now in Buffalo."
Colston Loveland could be even better in 2026 than 2025
Just think about what would have happened if Loveland got Caleb Williams' confidence and head coach Ben Johnson used Loveland the right way from the beginning of the season. After not even having 200 yards in the first seven games, Loveland exploded and became their best receiver with 713 yards and six touchdowns.
Now entering the 2026 season, Loveland might be the clear-cut number one target in the passing game outside of maybe Rome Odunze. Burden has been getting plenty of buzz early out of OTAs, but Loveland is super reliable as a pass catcher and can do so much in the Bears' offense.
An underrated aspect of Loveland's game is his aggressiveness as a blocker. He has proven himself to be solid in run blocking and pass protection when the Bears have called him up to do so.
Where Loveland ends the season statistically will be the interesting part, as Williams is known for spreading the ball around in the offense. Loveland, Odunze, and Burden should all at least walk out of 2026 with 650 yards, if not more. Could Loveland gun for over 1,000 yards in just his second season in the NFL?

The possibility is realistic as Williams should be able to break the franchise record (again) and go for over 4,000 yards passing. Expect Loveland to play a massive role in the Bears' continued success in 2026.
