ESPN recently ranked the teams with the best rosters with players under the age of 25. The Chicago Bears checked in at number five overall.
Is the Chicago Bears future in good hands?
"Teams with young quarterbacks will all appear high on this list, but so will teams that just used a bunch of draft picks. After using the No. 1 pick on 23-year-old Caleb Williams last year, Chicago took four players in the first two rounds this past April.Aaron Schatz
On offense, Williams is joined by fellow 23-year-old Odunze, who caught 54 passes for 734 yards last season. Wright is 24. Then, you have the rookies: first-rounder Loveland is 21, as is second-round wide receiver Luther Burden III. Second-round offensive tackle Ozzy Trapilo turns 24 in October. The other 2025 second-round pick is defensive tackle Shemar Turner. The 22-year-old will play with Gervon Dexter Sr., who is still just 23 after two seasons in the NFL."
This is an interesting concept, and it can spark an interesting discussion. On paper, yes, Caleb Williams, Darnell Wright, Rome Odunze, and Colston Loveland are all former top-ten picks under the age of 25. However, all of them bring their questions, and there are many bets on potential here.
Williams and Odunze had disappointing rookie seasons, and Loveland has yet to take a snap in the NFL, so the blue-chip consideration can be a bit flexible. Wright is the most qualified player, and even though he has been a solid player, he has not yet reached the All-Pro level.
The Bears have a quarterback under the age of 25, which is interesting in contrast to the sixth-ranked team, the rival Detroit Lions. Detroit has Penei Sewell, Sam LaPorta, Brian Branch, Jahmyr Gibbs, Terrion Arnold, Jameson Williams, and Kerby Joseph.
Some names like Arnold and Williams could be a bit flexible as well, but in the case of Sewell, LaPorta, Branch, and Gibbs, we are talking about much more proven commodities than what the Bears feature, even if the Bears' ceiling is higher.
On the flip side, Chicago may be aided by the potential of Luther Burden, Ozzy Trapilo Gervon Dexter, and Shemar Turner. They did not hit the blue-chip threshold but were mentioned. Meanwhile, Detroit has its blue-chip players and is hoping they hit on more in this draft.
