The Chicago Bears had such great news one day after blowing out the Cleveland Browns in the preseason opener.

Chicago announced that starting left tackle Ozzy Trapilo was off the PUP list and back at practice one day after the preseason game. That really got fans excited about how things might be okay on offense.

That was short-lived when some bad news came in at the end of practice. It was reported that Bears running back Kyle Monangai left practice early after suffering a right knee injury after being tackled by Grady Jarrett and both going to the ground.

Chicago Bears now facing a Kyle Monangai problem

This is now the second time that Monangai has been injured in training camp after suffering a soft-tissue injury earlier in camp that cost him a few days of practice. It's not a major concern that Monangai is getting banged up often, just a few weeks before the 2026 season begins.

He is such a key piece to the Bears' offense after rushing for 783 yards and five touchdowns in his rookie season last year. As a seventh-round pick, Monangai was the biggest surprise of any player on the Bears, becoming their power runner before D'Andre Swift.

Now the real question is what will happen at running back for the Bears. Roschon Johnson and Salvon Ahmed are coming off really good days in the win over the Browns so that they will move up on the depth chart.

The severity of Monangai's injury is not known and most likely will have to wait until Bears head coach Ben Johnson gives an update. At least Monangai was able to move on his own power, so hopefully that's a sign that he will be okay.

Chicago's practice had only 44 players participating, with the others getting a day off after playing in the game. The good news was that defensive end Montez Sweat and left tackle Braxton Jones returned to practice. That should give the Bears some much-needed depth at those positions.

After all the headaches the Bears have had with injuries throughout training camp, the last thing they needed was Monangai to deal with another injury. The hope now is that he will be ready to go for their Week 1 matchup against the Carolina Panthers, so the Bears better be cautious with him.
