Former Bears trade bust gets new life with a Super Bowl contender

Once upon a time, not too long ago, the Chicago Bears were desperate for interior offensive line help. In fact, it was a nagging issue for this team for quite some time. Back in late August of 2023, Ryan Poles made a trade to acquire versatile lineman Dan Feeney from the Miami Dolphins in exchange for a sixth-round pick.

Fast forward to present day, and Feeney has now agreed to a deal with the Buffalo Bills after having spent some time with the Minnesota Vikings last season.

Poles saw Feeney as being able to potentially fill multiple holes along the Bears' line two years ago, having experience playing both center and guard. With the uncertainty around players like Cody Whitehair, that felt like a decent reason to go after help.

Dan Feeney's career is hanging on by a thread after his stint with the Bears

The Bears essentially traded a sixth rounder in exchange for just one start from Feeney. They would let him go after a single season in Chicago. In that 2023 campaign, Feeney played a total of just 91 offensive snaps to go along with 66 on special teams.

Last season with the Vikings, Feeney failed to play a single snap on offense and wound up on the field for 40 special teams snaps.

That is quite the downward trend for a guy who had previously started 64 games over six years with both the Los Angeles Chargers and New York Jets.

The vibes with this current Bears team are much higher, thankfully. But, this is the type of storyline that's plagued Chicago for quite some time. The Bears seem to make boneheaded move after boneheaded move, and many times, they involve players who don't have much left to offer.

Hopefully, for Feeney's sake, he can catch on with the Bills and at least has a shot at making a Super Bowl run before his career ultimately comes to a close.
