There weren't many bright spots to the Chicago Bears' defensive line in 2025, but defensive tackle Gervon Dexter was one who had a really solid season for them.

Last season, Dexter finished with 44 tackles, 11 quarterback hits, six tackles for loss, six sacks, and two fumble recoveries in 17 games. Surprisingly, this offseason, his name has been mentioned in trade rumors as NFL teams have inquired about his availability, but the Bears don't seem very interested in letting him go.

That might not mean the Bears will have to do anything with Dexter, but his latest actions could create an interesting situation. NFL agent Drew Rosenhaus's agency, Rosenhaus Sports, posted on X that it has signed Dexter as a client.

Could something be brewing in Chicago with Gervon Dexter now?

Dexter is entering the final season of his contract after playing the last three years with the Bears. He is looking at a base salary of $1.5 million with a cap hit of $2.1 million.

When a player either hires an agent or moves on to a new one, it can only mean one thing: that player wants something. This is a subtle message from Dexter that he is prepared to do something within the next few months or the next year.

More than likely, Dexter could be seeking a new contract extension to keep him in Chicago past the 2026 season. If he can't get that, Dexter can either stick around and play the free agent market in 2027 or ask to be traded before that happens.

At the moment, the Bears don't have a lot of cap space as they are barely at $1 million, so they have some moves to make. They will include restructuring contracts and signing contract extensions to help with the cap hit in 2026.

For sources within the Bears to quickly shut down trade talks with Dexter means the team values him being on the roster. That can only mean the team wants to make something work with him. Bears general manager Ryan Poles had better be ready to talk with Rosenhaus after a new deal for Dexter soon enough.
