Most Chicago Bears fans wanted to see how quarterback Caleb Williams would play in Week 6 after missing the last three games with a hamstring injury. It turns out Williams would do better than just pretty good.
Williams was lights-out for the Chicago Bears, helping the team beat the Atlanta Falcons 31-23 on the road. While there were plenty of great performances on offense and defense, everyone was talking about Williams' play.
After watching that game, the question is how should Williams be graded for his performance? Well, let's take a look, and spoiler alert: he's getting a high grade.
Evaluating Caleb Williams' performance in Bears' Week 6 game against the Falcons
The stats look as good as Williams has ever put up before. He completed 30 of 36 passes for 305 yards and one touchdown. He rushed for only three yards on four carries and was sacked four times.
Of course, the most important stat is completion percentage: he completed 83.3% of his passes in the game. That is one of the highest marks he has posted in a game in his career, and one he needed, since he has been criticized during the offseason for inaccuracy.
Breaking down his incompletions, though, shows how even more impressive his performance was. Four of the six incompletions were throwaways, one was a pass that got hit, and another was Colston Loveland overrunning his route out of bounds in front of the end zone, according to Locked On Bears' Lorin Cox.

Out of his 6 incompletions:
4 were intentionally thrown away
1 was a play where his arm was hit while he was throwing
The other was when Loveland over-ran his route out of bounds in the front of endzone
It was not a surprise to see Williams stay in the pocket more than he usually does, but he did have moments when he ran out of the pocket. His lone touchdown pass to Loveland saw him on a scramble drill where he ran and found Loveland for the score.
His lack of mobility, though, did lead to him getting sacked four times. That doesn't mean it was a negative thing for Williams, as the offensive line had some struggles in the game.
The surprising part was the running game not really being there to help Williams out throughout the game. Roschon Johnson and D'Andre Swift combined for less than 100 yards in the game, so it was more on Williams to get it done through the air.
Williams showed off the accuracy and was smart with the football throughout the game. He showed more trust in Luther Burden III and Loveland throughout the game, as those guys were open a lot.
There was a sense of confidence from Williams throughout the game, and looked better in the pocket than he did before the hamstring injury. He seemed to be in the zone and able to make all the throws there.

Overall, this was as good a performance as Williams has ever had in his career. None of his passes were bad, and he made all the right decisions. As Tom Brady said on the broadcast, this was one of Williams' best performances ever as a passer, and knocked it out of the park.
Grade: A
