The Chicago Bears continue to prove their critics wrong. The hiring of Ben Johnson as head coach has proven to be the home run move of the offseason, as he now has the Bears at 9-3 on the season and inching closer to a playoff spot.
Bears fans had to be expecting the worst, as they were on the road on a short week against the Philadelphia Eagles, the defending Super Bowl champions. Entering the season, the Eagles were expected to be unstoppable powerhouses. Instead, they are struggling mightily as of late, including against the Bears.
On Friday, the Bears defeated the Eagles 24-15. Don't let the score fool you, the game was all Bears, and it's due in part to the play-calling and decision-making from Johnson.
FOX Sports analyst and former Bears tight end Greg Olsen pointed out near the end of the game that the Eagles were throwing into the wind at Lincoln Financial Field because the Bears won the coin toss at the beginning of the game and took the football. As Olsen perfectly said, Johnson "planned for the fourth quarter hours ago."
Philly is throwing into the wind bc Chicago won the toss and took the ball

It’s not random

Greg Olsen perfectly describes Ben Johnson's wisdom after Bears' huge win over Eagles
The last thing you want to do as a football team is to be throwing it into the wind. That will always make a pass that much more difficult. If true, that is incredibly impressive by Johnson to be thinking that far ahead to ensure the Eagles offense had an even tougher time than they are with offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo calling plays.
The Bears had a 17-9 lead early on in the fourth quarter, and they managed to pull away after quarterback Caleb Williams let off a beautiful 28 yard pass to tight end Cole Kmet to give them a 24-9 lead.
Johnson did have a perfect strategy: running the football at will, because the Eagles' defense had no chance of stopping it. On 47 carries, the Bears accounted for 281 rushing yards, averaging 6.0 yards per carry. Rookie Kyle Monangai received a team-high 22 carries and picked up 130 yards and a touchdown on them. Then there was D'Andre Swift, who ran for 125 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries. It was an area of strength for the Bears, and Johnson didn't stray away from it.

Under Johnson, the Bears have managed to sneak out some victories. But for their most dominant win to come against the Super Bowl champions? That's incredibly impressive. Not to mention, this was a much-needed win, as the Bears continue to keep their division lead over the Green Bay Packers, who face off next week.
