It felt as though the Chicago Bears had everything going in their favor in 2025 after all the close wins, but fans in the Windy City might have had it wrong.

The Bears had to make seven comebacks and game-winning drives last year to survive some crazy games. While that was cool to break an NFL record, the team would like to avoid doing that again, but needs some help from the league to make things a little fairer.

Warren Sharp of Sharp Football Analysis shared an interesting stat showing a trend the Bears fans would like to see uncommon. Sharp shared the fewest penalty yards called on opponents in 2025, with the Bears' opponents having the fewest.

678 - Chicago Bears
701 - Detroit Lions
731 - Buffalo Bills
734 - San Francisco 49ers
747 - Atlanta Falcons

NFL referees are not calling as many penalties on Bears' opponents

The crazy part is that this isn't an isolated situation; it's been going on for years now. Look at the stats that X user Kirsten Tanis shared regarding the last four years.

2025: 39.4 (32nd - fewest)
2024: 46.7 (26th - 7th fewest)
2023: 31.2 (32nd - fewest)
2022: 38.1 (32nd - fewest)

Chicago is just not getting calls in their favor, as they have continued to lose the penalty battle over the years. Last year, the Bears had the eighth-most penalty yards against them in the NFL, with 999, and the third-fewest net yards, with -251.

Hopefully, things will get better starting in 2026 for the Chicago Bears when it comes to penalties, but this has been a problem for years, and something is going to have to change with it at the NFL level.
