He may not have burst onto the NFL scene like some Chicago Bears fans had hoped, but Caleb Williams is continuing to prove that he was well-worth the no. 1 overall pick in last year's draft. His ongoing improvement, and ability to make plays when it matters most, has Bears fans buzzing right about now.
After yet another come-from-behind victory this past Sunday, Williams officially jotted his name down in the Bears history books. With the win over the New York Giants, Williams tied a franchise record with four game-winning drives on the season.
We've still got eight games to go, too.
For those wondering, Williams tied Jay Cutler, Bob Avellini and Billy Wade for the record. Cutler did it in three separate seasons, though (2009, 2010 and 2015).
Caleb Williams is delivering on Bears fans' expectations just a year and a half in
There is a lot that could be said about certain parts of this fan base and their expectations for Williams coming into the NFL. But, for the most part, the former USC standout is indeed delivering.
With comeback wins over the Las Vegas Raiders, Washington Commanders, Cincinnati Bengals and New York Giants, the second-year pro is proving one thing above all the rest: he can be trusted with the game on the line.
While many fans might unfairly want to see Williams taking off like that of Drake Maye with the New England Patriots, let us all remember the old saying, "comparison kills."
Maye and Williams are having strong seasons and each for different reasons.
Williams has had to do a lot of the heavy lifting later in the games due to his defense not being nearly as good as fans had hoped it would be this year. And, to be fair, he has had some inconsistencies. The offense has not been the well-oiled machine some fans had desired to see, but it's still early on under a complex offense.
Ben Johnson's system is as creative and as difficult to learn as just about any, and it'll continue to take time. But, with Williams showing up when it matters most, that's something Bears fans should hold higher than the rest of his ups or downs.

This team knows it needs to be able to score points earlier on and put teams away rather than come back. It's a given. But, for now, let's celebrate what the young kid continues to do week after week.
