It's only training camp but forgotten veteran has Caleb Williams' full trust

This might be a good one-two punch.

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is using training camp to build some chemistry with his wide receivers. Most people think of DJ Moore and Rome Odunze as his top targets, but another veteran has been building a good rapport with Williams.

All reports from Wednesday's practice have been that Williams and wide receiver Olamide Zaccheaus were connecting multiple times throughout the workout. 247Sports' Zack Pearson said that "Williams hit Odunze and Zaccheaus multiple times today." Marquee Sports Network Bears insider Scott Blair also added, "Olamide Zaccheaus shows up every day. Clearly has Caleb's trust."

This is nothing new to hear if Bears fans are keeping track of what's going on at training camp. Last week, Zacchaeus performed well in the Miami Dolphins' joint practice, where one play showed Williams connecting with the veteran, and Zacchaeus made multiple defenders miss.

Zacchaeus continues to create for himself a bigger role in Ben Johnson's offense

The Bears knew they were getting a reliable wide receiver when they signed him in the offseason. Last year, Zacchaeus caught 70.3% of his targets, a career-high for the six-year veteran.

Zacchaeus is playing for his fourth different team in the last four years after spending his first four with the Atlanta Falcons. His best season was in 2022, where he had 533 yards and three touchdowns.

While never the big-play guy, Zacchaeus has always been known more as a reliable third or fourth receiver on the team, who quarterbacks target on third down. He's more known for what he can do in the slot at receiver.

That's the same type of role he will be playing in the Bears' offense this season. It's now a question of whether Zacchaeus or rookie second-round pick Luther Burden III starts in the slot. Both guys will most likely be in the field together when there are four wide receiver sets.

Williams needs guys he can trust going into his second NFL season, and will be leaning on veterans like Zacchaeus to step up and play well. Zacchaeus' name has been mentioned repeatedly as a performer at camp.

The Bears might have one of the best, well-rounded wide receiver rooms in the league thanks to the depth Zacchaeus brings to the team.
