There was so many Chicago Bears fans scratching their heads through the first three games of the regular season for how they were handling their rookie second-round pick offensive tackle Ozzy Trapilo.
The Bears made him inactive for the first three games of the season. Still, due to starting right tackle Darnell Wright injuring his elbow in the team's 31-14 win over the Dallas Cowboys, Trapilo was activated for the first time against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday. Braxton Jones was at left tackle and Theo Benedet was at right tackle for the start of the game.
That all changed when Jones was benched, and a change happened on the offensive line with Benedet moving to the left side at tackle, and Trapilo took over at right tackle. This was the moment he was waiting for after playing left and right tackle in training camp.
How the rookie did when he took over as the Bears' right tackle
Trapilo came through big time, as on the first two drives he was in, they scored 10 points and were able to fight back in the game. He was on the line the rest of the game, including the offense scoring a game-winning touchdown with under two minutes left in the game. It was enough to pick up a 25-24 win over the Raiders.
After the game, Bears head coach Ben Johnson spoke with the media, discussing the decision to let Trapilo be active and play.
"Yeah we knew going into the game that Ozzy was likely to get some snaps for us. He's a guy that just keeps getting better every week, so we were at the point where we weren't doing a whole lot on offense and we felt like that would give us a little spark and ignite us on offense there."

A lot of Bears fans are going to ask why it took them so long to make it happen, but now there's a better idea of how he will look. So far, it looks like a home run of a pick, but if Johnson had just gone with making Trapilo active from the beginning, would that have changed anything?

The Bears can't erase the past and must move forward. A new storyline has just been created as to whether Trapilo earned a starting job now. That's be something that will linger through the bye week.
