The Chicago Bears have officially arrived in London ahead of their Week 6 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars but there was one player who did not make the trip.
Shortly before the Bears departed for London on Monday night, the team announced that starting safety Jaquan Brisker did not travel with the team as he is currently in the concussion protocol.
While Brisker was able to finish Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers, he did report concussion-like symptoms at Halas Hall on Monday. Brisker hasn't officially been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Jaguars as he could meet the team in London if he is cleared later in the week.
Jaquan Brisker's injury comes while he was emerging as one of the NFL's best safeties.
Losing Brisker for Sunday's game would be a setback for a Bears' defense that has proven through the first five weeks this season that they are among the best units in the league. Brisker has been an important piece to the success that the Bears' defensive secondary has had this season, as he has 40 total tackles, including a sack, forced fumble, and an interception. What makes Brisker great is his willingness to give up his body in order to make a stop, but that has proven to be the thing that forces him off the field from time to time throughout his first few seasons in the NFL.
If Brisker is unable to play in Sunday's game against the Jaguars, the expectation is that Elijah Hicks would be starting in his place.
In addition to Brisker, two other Bears' players did not travel with the team on Monday night.
As with Brisker, Zacch Pickens and Terell Smith could still meet the Bears in London if they are cleared later in the week. Pickens has yet to play in a game this season while Smith has missed the past two games with the hip injury.
