Jaylon Johnson rips Matt Eberflus while explaining how Bears lost faith in former HC
It's kinda wild how quickly all this Matt Eberflus stuff turned embarrassing.
For most of his time in Chicago, Eberflus was pacing towards an ultimately-forgettable four year run with the team that would have seen him become an obscure Chicago sports pub trivia answer. He would have left the job with his defensive reputation still intact, and probably could have even done the Matt Nagy and quietly coordinate somewhere until the Jets fire their coach.

Then the whole Hail Mary thing happened, and it took exactly four seconds for everything to collapse. Guys started going on Chicago sports radio to openly question Eberflus' coaching, and everyone just kinda ... went along with it? By the time that details of Eberflus' last days as the Bears' head coach – specifically, the ones describing how players spent a good chunk of time yelling at him in the locker room after their Thanksgiving loss – no one was all that surprised to learn he'd lost their respect.
And it hasn't really stopped since. Even after the team's big symbolic transition to Thomas Brown this morning, Eberflus was the first topic brought up in Jaylon Johnson's weekly hit on 670 The Score. Johnson used the opportunity to clear up some details about his role in the locker room argument, but he certainly didn't mince words about what the last week's been like.
Jaylon Johnson didn't hold back about Matt Eberflus' final days at the Bears' head coach
"At the end of the day, honestly, I don't give a damn about too much of it," Johnson said. "At the end of the day, it's one of those things where, at some point, enough is enough, as far as expressing frustrations. At the end of the day, I found out through ESPN of the firing first, and then recieved some texts and phone calls after that. It's not my first go-around, not my first rodeo with firing. At the end of the day, it's a business. Guys get fired all the time – players, coaches, GMs. It happens. I don't think I necessarily had some major part to play, or played a role in him getting fired. That's not on me. But at the end of the day, there was frustration, there was words from myself that I expressed, just from my frustration of losing ... you can say it's been the last few weeks, but for me, it's been the last five years of my damn career."
Johnson added that he doesn't really remember the specifics of the argument, because it "got to the point where you don't remember everything that was said," though he did imply that it was a spur of the moment reaction in response to what Eberflus was telling the team after the loss.
So, yeah. Not a great look for Eberflus. Hopefully whatever tropical island he booked a flight to doesn't pick up 670.
