Given the clunker that was the Chicago Bears' 6-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday, the focus during the game was on what would happen in the offseason for the Bears.
Having already fired Matt Eberflus, the Bears have begun the vetting process of potential head coach candidates. Former Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll has been the latest candidate added to the mix, with confirmation coming from Albert Breer that the Bears are interested in speaking with Carroll.
Even more interesting than that was a report of who Jaylon Johnson is looking to be the next head coach of the Bears.
Jaylon Johnson is looking out for the best interest of Caleb Williams
Johnson dropping specific names is interesting. It's worth noting that it was a sideline report during the game, it will be interesting if Johnson provides direct confirmation during his next radio hit on 670 The Score.
When speaking about Ben Johnson earlier this season, the Bears cornerback had nothing but praise for the current Lions' offensive coordinator. Ben Johnson certainly appears to be the favorite in the clubhouse when talking about the odds of who will be the next Bears' head coach but there remains some convincing that may be needed from the Bears.
It seems clear that an "offensive mastermind" is beginning to be the preference of the current Bears' players. It could be a sign that the Bears' locker room has seen the talent that Caleb Williams has and is now looking for a head coach to unlock his true potential.
If not an offensive-minded head coach, it seems that the Bears' locker room is aware that there is a new culture that needs to be established. If the 2024 season has proved one thing, it's that the Bears' culture is far from what Ryan Poles stated it was over the last two seasons.
Carroll and Mike Vrabel would certainly be a coach hire that would establish a new normal for the Bears. A new normal is certainly needed, highlighting the importance of the Bears getting this hire right.
