It's been a whirlwind of a last two months for Chicago Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson.

Johnson missed all of Bears' training camp with a groin injury, but was able to come back to practice the week of their regular season-opening loss to the Minnesota Vikings. He would not play in that game, but did practice enough to have himself activated for the Detroit Lions game on Sunday.

That's when the gut punches started to come for everyone in the Windy City when Johnson got injured on a pass deflection during the Lions game. On Monday, the first report was that he was out indefinitely with a groin injury. NFL insider Jordan Schultz had a separate report that he was going to be out for the season and needed surgery.

Bears head coach Ben Johnson spoke with the media and said that a new injury has occurred with Jaylon Johnson, and his status is unknown. So, essentially, Jaylon Johnson is injured, and his status for the 2025 campaign remains unknown.

Jaylon Johnson speaks out to give an update

That wasn't the end of the Johnson status updates as he himself went on 670 The Score late Monday afternoon to share more. Johnson confirmed what Ben Johnson said, that it was a new injury after his initial injury was a tearing of his abductor off the pelvic bone.

"The other side of the top of it was compromised. And now that's kind of what is affected now. So, it's kind of everything as a whole in that region needs to get repaired. I'm trying to figure out where I want to go from there, of course the time trying to see what's the best option, who's the best option, what that looks like, the timelines and things like that."

Johnson did address whether he felt like he rushed too quickly back onto the field after having that kind of injury.

“I wouldn’t say there was any rushing involved. I would say there was a sense of urgency to get back but definitely no rush. I didn’t do anything reckless. I felt comfortable playing. I know if I didn’t feel comfortable, I wouldn’t have played no matter what anybody was saying.”

Johnson was unable to provide a definitive answer on when he would return to the field, or even if he would be back in 2025. He confirmed what everyone's been reporting and saying that he is going over the options.

“I would definitely say I’m trying to figure out what’s the best move long term. Because I feel like you don’t want this to keep happening … Now that there’s more damage to the area, it’s like how much do you want to try to push through?”

Bears fans are hoping for the best for Johnson, that he can recover quickly, but the question of when he should come back is another thought. The two-time Pro Bowler is too important to the franchise's future, and with the team starting 0-2, it may not be the most intelligent decision to rush him back this season.
