Joe Thuney stood out for the most frustrating reason in his Bears debut

The one new addition to the offseason for the Chicago Bears that was going to be an automatic lock for being a great move was trading for Joe Thuney. That trade paid off right away in Week 1.

Thuney stood out as one of the few bright spots to the Bears' 27-24 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Monday night. He wasn't allowing any quarterback pressures and stood strong against a solid Vikings defensive line.

There were some initial struggles with getting the running game going in the trenches at the beginning. Thuney helped lead the way in the second half when Bears running back D'Andre Swift was finally able to break out some big runs.

Everyone was excited to see Thuney play and live up to the expectations of his three Pro Bowls and two first-team All-Pro selections. It's too bad the rest of his colleagues didn't get the memo.

Bears' offensive line struggled outside of Thuney

The most frustrating part of the Bears' offensive line was the amount of penalties they had. Darnell Wright and Jonah Jackson were the worst offenders as each had two penalties in the game. Wright had two false starts and Jackson had a false start and a holding call.

Drew Dalman and Braxton Jones had their own struggles as well. There were points in the game where Thuney was also pulling double duty with helping both guys with blocks.

Dalman held his own much better than Jones, but it was bad on the left side. One click on social media was showing Caleb Williams' great pass, but more people saw Thuney bailing out Jones on a one-on-one block he couldn't handle.

This might end up being a recurring issue for the Bears over the last month as Jones and the left tackle position have been under a large microscope. Jones barely won the job over Theo Benedet and rookie Ozzy Trapilo.

The Bears should count their blessings that Thuney is there to help alleviate the offensive line issues, but someone else is going to have to step up as this can't continue to be a problem all season.
