Not too long ago, Chicago Bears fans thought they had a franchise quarterback in Justin Fields before the team gave up on him and moved on to Caleb Williams.

Fields has been an exciting player who can make all the throws and use his legs, unlike many quarterbacks in the NFL. Losing every year took its toll on the Bears and the team had to move on, but Fields found his way to success with the Pittsburgh Steelers and now this year with the New York Jets.

One of Fields' new teammates in New York, safety Andre Cisco, spoke highly of the young quarterback.

"Getting to know him up close as a teammate has been really, really special," Cisco said onSiriusXM NFL Radio via NFL.com. "I'm glad that I get this opportunity to get behind him and support him as he takes on that role. We already know what quarterback means in the NFL. I'm excited for him to prove those who are doubting him wrong and those who are supporting right, because I think he's gonna have a huge year."

Bears saw the potential in Fields, but time ran out on him

Remember the 2022 season? Fields had a special season despite the team only winning three games. He had 17 passing touchdowns and managed to run for 1,143 yards (second most by a quarterback in NFL history) with eight rushing touchdowns. Despite the horrible year by the team, Fields still got votes for the MVP award.

Fields was just plagued with bad teams in Chicago and was never set up for success. He went 10-28 as the starter with his best season coming in 2023 when he was 5-8 as the starter.

Last year in Pittsburgh, Fields experienced a slight resurgence in his play, going 4-1 as the starter and scoring 10 touchdowns, while throwing just one interception. Russell Wilson was also there and the primary starter, so it took Fields off the field, but fans saw what could happen if he were on a good team.

Now with the Jets, Fields is poised for the comeback story that recent quarterbacks like Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield have had with new homes. Bears fans hope not to live with regret in letting Fields walk, but Williams looks the part of a franchise quarterback, for now.
