The city with Big Ben was treated to a defensive battle. At least that would be the nicest way of putting it, as former Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields didn't have the best day at the office.
In Week 6 action, the Denver Broncos took on Fields and the New York Jets in London. It was a bad day for Fields as he was beaten up at a level no quarterback in the NFL has ever faced this season.
He finished the game with nine completions for 45 yards and was sacked nine teams in the 13-11 loss to the Broncos. Fields was also hit 15 times in the loss.
The Jets move to 0-6 on the season and now find themselves in a position where making the postseason seems nearly impossible. Seeing how bad they are is just another reminder of how lucky the Bears are to have Caleb Williams as their quarterback.
Things can always be worse than what the Bears are facing, example Fields and the Jets
Many Bears fans at the beginning of the Williams era questioned whether the team had made a mistake moving on from Fields too early. The argument was made that Fields was once an MVP candidate, but never had anyone to work with when he was in Chicago.
Since that time, it has been an up-and-down experience for Williams, who finished 5-12 in his first NFL season. The 2025 campaign has started decently with a 2-2 record, but his year-over-year performance has improved.
His quarterback rating has improved from 2024 (87.8) to 2025 (97.8). He's also gone from a 10.79% sack percentage in 2024 to 5.11% in 2025.
Williams is pacing to have more passing yards and passing touchdowns than he did last year. He's playing at a different level with more confidence and handling the offense better than he did in his rookie season.

Chicago still has a ways to go, but the Bears are in a much better position with Williams than they would be with Fields running the offense.
