Things have been going south very quickly over the last year for Chicago Bears cornerback Kyler Gordon, who was once regarded as one of the best nickel corners in the NFL.
Last season, Gordon played in only three games as he struggled with a soft-tissue injury throughout training camp and the entire 2026 campaign. The latest update has that Gordon is still dealing with it and most likely won't be participating in OTAs. Bears reporter Brad Biggs shared more on the Chicago airwaves that might not bode well for Gordon's future in the Windy City.
“It was such a never-ending problem," Biggs said via 104.3 The Score. "He had the groin, the hamstring, the calf. It all snowballed on him, and it was after he got paid ... All the guaranteed money in that deal was about $21 million. It’s up at the end of this season. So, if you want to see the rest of the money in that contract, you’ve got to show that your availability is one of your best abilities. If he has another injury-wrecked season, I don’t see how they bring him back.”
Will Kyler Gordon be in Chicago for long?
When Gordon is on the field, he's a great slot corner who can cover the fastest receivers. He's proven it early in his career.
Unfortunately, it's been a while since Bears fans have seen it, since he just hasn't been available. That has been frustrating for Bears head coach Ben Johnson, who talked about that late last year and not knowing how to handle it.
The Bears took a beating in the secondary as cornerback Nahshon Wright and Gordon's replacement, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, both signed elsewhere. Chicago selected Texas cornerback Malik Muhammad in the fourth round of the 2026 NFL Draft.
While Muhammad was seen as competition for Tyrique Stevenson at CB2, there might now be a chance that, if Gordon can't go, Muhammad moves to slot corner. The Bears hope it doesn't come down to that, but the options are pretty thin at cornerback compared to last year.

If things don't improve for Gordon and the Bears can't see him back on the field in the secondary, in his nickel spot, fans can expect some kind of change to be made next offseason, and it won't be good for Gordon.
