For most of the Bears' offseason, all the attention's been on new guys being added to the roster. From Ben Johnson to Jonah Jackson, Joe Thuney, and Grady Jarrett, it's been a busy few months focused on bringing new people into Halas Hall. (Which, just for anyone who didn't watch the Bears last year, isn't at all a bad thing.)

But there are, believe it or not, a few roster holdovers who still have a real role in the next great Bears team – assuming there will eventually be one? – and one of them is cornerback Kyler Gordon. Gordon's been one of the secondary's best players since getting drafted out of Washington in 2022, and he's nearing the end of his rookie contract. An extension makes all the sense in the world, but up until now there hadn't been a ton of public conversation about it.
In a recent conversation at the 2024 Ed Block Courage Award banquet, Gordon spoke on the possibility of staying in Chicago way beyond 2025 – and Bears fans will love every word of his answer.
It sure sounds like Kyler Gordon wants to spend his entire career with the Bears
"I love Chicago. I love everything about it," Gordon said. "The people, the history, the team, community. This is where God is telling me to be, this is where I will be. It’s where I want to be. As far as an extension, we’ll see what happens. I’ve got no control over that, but God will.”
This is, as they say, the good stuff. This is how you position yourself going into contract extension conversations. Now every single Bears fan is on Gordon's side – although that's not really anything new. On the grand scale of difficult contract conversation, it doesn't feel like a Gordon one would be all that complicated, but it never hurts to play the PR hits before you start negotiating for tens of millions of dollars.
Pay the man, Ryan Poles. And then Bears fans can enjoy Spiderman memes and fun backflips (as well as, you know, great cornerback play) for the next half-decade. It's a win-win for everyone.
