The Chicago Bears are back with another injury report for their Week 1 showdown against the Carolina Panthers, and there are a lot more names on there this time.
There were only three players who made the list after Wednesday's report: quarterback Tyson Bagent, wide receiver Rome Odunze, and offensive lineman Ozzy Trapilo. Then three more names were added, and while two were veterans resting, safety Xavier Woods now has the attention of the Bears fan base.
Name, Position | Injury | Wednesday Status | Thursday Status |
|---|---|---|---|
Tyson Bagent, QB | Back | DNP | DNP |
Grady Jarrett, DT | NIR (Rest) | - | DNP |
Joe Thuney, OL | NIR (Rest) | - | DNP |
Rome Odunze, WR | Calf | Limited | Limited |
Ozzy Trapilo, OL | Knee | Limited | Limited |
Xavier Woods, S | Groin | - | Limited |
Bears' second Week 1 injury report has Xavier Woods being limited
Odunze appears to still be on track to play with the calf injury, which is good news. He's going into another day of limited work, and playing against the Panthers is still on the table.
Woods is the big problem right now for the Bears, being hurt. He could still start in the game, but it's just another injury that Chicago can't afford to have in the secondary right now. Coby Bryant and Kyler Gordon are both out for an extended amount of time, soperiod Woods needs to be healthy to play.
If Woods can't play, the Bears may need to make some changes. Malik Muhammad could move up to nickel, and Cam Lewis could move to safety as one option in the Bears' defense.
Bagent is starting to look like he won't be available to play in the Panthers game. Case Keenum is looking like he will be Caleb Williams' backup. The hope is that Bagent will be back soon, but there's no point in pushing him to play if he won't be 100% going into the game.
Jarrett and Thuney were both common names on the injury report last year, as they got veteran rest days throughout the year. While Thuney was 100% healthy for the most part, Jarrett did play injured for parts of the season.
The Bears fan base doesn't have too much to worry about right now, but they still have plenty of players to monitor. Right now, Bagent, Woods, and Odunze are going to be the ones who need the most attention.
