Latest Nate Davis trade rumor suggests the Chicago Bears are getting desperate
With the NFL Trade Deadline next Tuesday, Nate Davis is at the center of the trade rumors for the Chicago Bears.
The Bears' loss to the Washington Commanders last Sunday likely pushed the team closer to the "standing pat" group of teams in terms of trade deadline activity. While Ryan Poles has demonstrated a willingness to be active during his previous two trade deadlines as the Bears' general manager, it would seem unlikely that the Bears will make a similar splash to the one they made last season when they acquired Montez Sweat from the Washington Commanders.
If the Bears do make a trade before Tuesday, chances are it will involve Davis.
Davis has been inactive for each of the Bears' past two games. Considering the questionable health of the Bears' offensive line, there is a chance that Davis is active for Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals. With injuries to Braxton Jones and Teven Jenkins, Davis could even find himself as part of the starting offensive line for Sunday's game.
Even if Davis starts for the Bears on Sunday, it seems that the front office is still motivated to trade the veteran. In his latest for ESPN, Jeremy Fowler notes that the Bears might be willing to pay down some of Davis' remaining money in order to find a trade partner.
Also at guard, Chicago’s Nate Davis is available, and the Bears are prepared to cover some of his $8 million salary to facilitate.
When the Bears' offensive line is fully healthy, it seems that Davis has fallen out of the rotation. Even as a depth piece, the imminent returns of Larry Borom and Ryan Bates diminish the idea of Davis being kept for depth purposes. With that in mind, Sunday could very well be Davis' final game with the Bears.
