The Bears did Free Agency Week 1 just about as big as everyone expected them to, and credit where it's due: everyone loves a team that really tries to go and win the offseason. Overhauling the offensive line was obviously priority number one for Ben Johnson, and the trades/signings that he and Ryan Poles have pulled off are, objectively, exciting moves.

But unless there's a Stefan Diggs signing on the horizon (there isn't), the Bears' biggest moves of free agency are almost certainly behind them now. But according to the Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs, that doesn't mean they're done spending. In a recent rundown of Bears info, Biggs snuck in something of a prediction about what move could be next for Johnson and Poles.
It sounds like the Bears and Kyler Gordon may be working on a contract extension
"Reality is the team likely is nearing its cash budget, which is probably more significant than cap space," he wrote. "Remaining major moves could be a contract extension for nickel cornerback Kyler Gordon and an extension for Thuney, who is signed only through this season. The big signings probably are done, but Poles has proved he isn’t shy about making aggressive moves ... "
" ... The pressing needs on the roster have been filled. There could be a slow trickle of additions over the next couple of weeks as the market settles and the Bears seek players to add competition. Maybe they’ll shop for a safety to add depth. Another wide receiver is a possibility."
It's not entirely surprising, given how open both sides have always been to an extension. Not even a week ago, Gordon talked to reporters at the team's Ed Block Courage Award banquet and expressed his interest in signing an extension and staying in Chicago longterm. As one of the team's best (and youngest) defensive players, an extension makes all the sense in the world.
In his third year, Gordon played 15 games and finished with a career-high 75 tackles, three fumble recoveries, five passes defended, and a forced fumble. Since getting drafted out of Washington in the 2nd round of the 2022 Draft, Gordon's played in 42 games for the Bears, starting 34 of them.
