Many Chicago Bears fans are waking up with the hope that the team will act with the same sense of accountability that the Las Vegas Raiders demonstrated on Sunday night.
After the Raiders' 41-24 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, Las Vegas announced on Sunday night that they have fired offensive coordinator Luke Getsy.
Getsy, the former offensive coordinator of the Bears, has now been fired twice within the same calendar year. For all the talk across the NFL that Getsy's hiring by the Raiders last offseason would prove that Justin Fields was the problem with the Bears' offense over the past three seasons instead of the former Green Bay Packers offensive assistant, the firing on Sunday proved otherwise.
But that is the only silver lining that Bears fans can enjoy from Luke Getsy's firing.
Life hasn't been greener for the Bears under Shane Waldron. While Waldron's offense appeared to be taking a step forward during the team's three-game winning streak, the offense, over the last two games, has regressed back to the struggles they had at the start of the season. Waldron is forcing the passing game with an offensive line that can't protect Williams. Beyond that, despite D'Andre Swift's emergence in the running game during the previous winning streak, Waldron seems to have abandoned the run game once again.
In what is becoming a theme across the Bears' coaching staff, the moment appears to be too big for Waldron. Firing an offensive coordinator in the middle of their first season with a team isn't ideal, but when it becomes clear that the scheme is not working, it's something that can't be ruled out as a possibility. For all the jokes that can be made at the Raiders' expense in recent seasons, Sunday proved their front office acts with more accountability than the Bears' front office.
