Matt Eberflus' future doesn't look great with Chicago Bears' remaining schedule
Things aren't looking too good for the Chicago Bears. They have one of the toughest remaining schedules in the league. This disappointing season might hit a new low as we approach the holiday season.
Besides the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks, who are now at 5-5, all of the Bears' future opponents have a winning record. This challenging schedule will test the entire team.
The Bears still have to play the Detroit Lions and they look like Super Bowl contenders. There's a particularly brutal three-game stretch where they'll have to play the Lions, the reigning NFC champion San Francisco 49ers and the Minnesota Vikings.
Five of the remaining games are against division rivals. The NFC North is easily the most competitive divison in football and the Bears are currently on the outside looking in when it comes to a playoff spot. The Lions, Vikings and Packers all look like they will earn a playoff berth, per CBS Sports. The Bears will need a late season rally to make the playoffs.
It's fair to assume the Bears might struggle to win another game altogether. Speaking of wins, three of their four wins were against the Jacksonville Jaguars (2-9), Tennessee Titans (2-8) and Carolina Panthers (3-7). These likely victories helped the Bears get to 4-2, but they are currently on a four-game losing streak after the Week 7 bye.
This a cruel stroke of bad luck for a rookie quarterback and a head coach fighting for his job as Matt Eberflus is currently on the hot seat, per CBS Sports. There's no denying Eberflus might be unemployed by Thanksgiving.
The only positive to all this is the Bears might be able to get another top 10 draft pick out of this season. The Bears currently have the 14th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and that could become a better draft pick if the Bears continue losing.
Perhaps the Bears can have another late-season turnaround like last season. The final stretch of this season will show us who the 2024 Bears are.
