There really is no reason to overcomplicate it for Chicago Bears edge rusher Montez Sweat: improvement is needed.
That might be a bit strong to say after Sweat had a great 2025 season with the Bears, as he racked up 10 sacks, the most he has had in a single season with the team. For Sweat, though, that isn't enough, as he told the media that he is looking to reach one goal in the 2026 season.
"Just want to be better than the year before."
Montez Sweat is looking to improve from the 2025 season
Sweat had a pretty good season last year, and along with 10 sacks, he recorded 54 quarterback pressures, 37 hurries, and four batted passes. Pro Football Focus rewarded him with a 71.2 grade, ranking 42nd out of 115 eligible edge rushers.
Bears head coach Ben Johnson praised Sweat, calling last season the best of his career. Johnson also liked that Sweat has been so good not only as a pass rusher but also in stopping the run.
The Bears are going to see Sweat have another great season for them in 2026, as their edge-rusher room has a lot of questions heading into the new year. While Dayo Odeyingbo and Austin Booker are there, they have not been quite the players the team was hoping for. Chicago is at least optimistic that Booker can still be a solid player, but Odeyingbo is coming off an Achilles injury and only had one sack in eight games, so he's got a lot to prove this season.

With Bears general manager Ryan Poles deciding to ignore the edge rusher room and keep it the same this offseason, that means that Sweat is going to need to be the guy they spent $98 million on long-term. Last year was a good indicator that he is trending in the right direction for the franchise.
