Not one Chicago Bears fan could have thought that cornerback Nahshon Wright was going to end up being the breakout star that he became in 2025.

Last season, Wright made 80 tackles, 11 pass deflections, five interceptions, three tackles for loss, three fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles, one quarterback hit, and one pick-six in 17 games. That helped him earn Pro Bowl alternate honors, replacing Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Quinyon Mitchell.

While at the Pro Bowl, Wright was asked about his defensive backs coach and defensive pass game coordinator, Al Harris, and what he has meant to him in his career. Wright was honest about how he might not be in the position he is without Harris coaching him.

“Everything. I think he’s the reason why I’m standing here today," Wright said via CHGO. "When you have someone who believes in you, he never gave up faith even when I did get traded. He never gave up on me, always checked on me and to be able to do what we did together in Chicago, like it was everything. Him just believing in me, that staff, DA (Dennis Allen), Ben (Johnson), (Ryan) Poles, allowing me to come in it was definitely cool."

Nahshon Wright and Al Harris share a close bond that landed both in Chicago

Harris and Wright's close relationship began in 2021, during Wright's rookie season with the Dallas Cowboys, when Harris was his defensive backs coach. Wright spent his first three NFL seasons with Harris coaching him in Dallas before being traded to the Minnesota Vikings ahead of the 2024 season.

The two were able to reunite in Chicago last year, and that ended up paying off. After Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon were injured, the Bears thrust Wright into action, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Now the Bears face a tough offseason decision, as Wright could be in the market for a total contract value of $50 million thanks to his great play. That is going to be tough for Chicago to justify paying for after one great season.

While a Harris-Wright combo would be great to have in Chicago, there are other big-name free agents the Bears have to decide on, with Kevin Byard, Jaquan Brisker, and C.J. Gardner-Johnson also needing decisions on, and that is just the secondary alone.
