New Bears beat reporter just sparked Josh Sweat trade buzz out of nowhere

Remember when all of the Chicago Bears coaches and Ryan Poles told us this team was essentially going to ride with the group they had at defensive end for 2026?

For weeks now, it hasn't even been a question. Bears fans have had to grow used to the idea that this current defensive end room is the one they'll watch take the field come September.

Until now.

FOX 32 brought on a new Bears beat reporter recently, and she had previously spent time covering the Philadelphia Eagles. Devan Kaney was introduced to Bears fans this week and, while on the air giving a little background, she might have let something slip that nobody would have seen coming.

While going through her introduction, FOX 32 showed a picture of her and former Eagles pass rusher Josh Sweat after Philadelphia had won the Super Bowl, to which Kaney had this to say in the moment:

"This is a picture of me and potential, future Chicago Bear Josh Sweat ... Actually I didn't intentionally give them that photo..."

Hold on, there. Wait a minute.

You could tell that after Kaney said what she said, her co-host was taken aback a little bit and insinuated she was starting to break some early news right off the bat.

Does she know something we don't?

Josh Sweat trade buzz may be resurfacing and the Bears could be the perfect partner

We know Kaney would have a relationship with Sweat from their time together in Philadelphia. The interesting part of all of this is the fact that, just a few weeks back, Sweat's name came up in trade rumors courtesy of NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

In fact, there were talks that the Green Bay Packers could make a play for Sweat because of his relationship with former Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon, who is now in the same role with the Packers.

In what would be an incredible and ironic twist of events, Sweat could be on his way to Chicago ... but when? How soon?

This could certainly all be nothing, and it could just be Kaney's wishful thinking after having known Sweat's name was out there in trade rumors. But the fact that she put all of that out there on the air is worth talking about.

For the record, Josh Sweat has no relation to Montez Sweat, although that would make this story even better.

The 29-year-old has two double-digit sack seasons in his last four campaigns. Last season with the Cardinals, Sweat notched a career-high 12.0 sacks under Gannon. The Cardinals ultimately fired him, allowing him to move on to Green Bay, which is why their connection resurfaced.

But Green Bay also sacrificed a bunch of capital to go out and get Micah Parsons. I don't see the Packers going after Sweat, which might be why nothing has happened just yet.

If the Bears swooped in and landed him, it would answer the offseason prayer that every Chicago fan is still holding on to. The current group of pass rushers simply isn't going to cut it. They have to get better. Somehow, some way, the Bears need to add another name.

Will it be Sweat?

Kaney sure made it sound like something is in the works.
