NFL insider just crushed the trade buzz Bears fans were holding onto

Not necessarily surprising.

On NFL trade deadline day, all eyes are on Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles. At 5-3, the Bears may be in somewhat of an awkward spot at this year's deadline.

But, Poles has not been shy about making moves this time of year. Fans continue to hold out hope that he has something up his sleeve, but one NFL insider just brought that buzz to a screeching halt.

Fox Sports' Jay Glazer was asked via social media whether he believes Poles is going to be active at the deadline, to which he replied:

"Yes, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to land a big name player. There just aren’t those level of players being shopped unless it a huge haul and for some guys their deals are up after this year so that complicates things too.

I don’t see anything splashy."

The Bears may not be making a move that fans are begging for at the trade deadline

Well, if Glazer is right, then you can assume the Bears are going to be active, but not to the point where they make a blockbuster happen.

A lot of fans would love for Chicago to add a veteran of starting quality at either the defensive end or cornerback position. Of course, the recent Dayo Odeyingbo injury news now makes the edge position even more of a need than it was before.

But, the Bears also need a lot of help at corner. Jaylon Johnson won't be back for a while (if at all this season). Tyrique Stevenson has had an injury already, this season. Kyler Gordon will be out a good chunk again, now, too.

Some names that have been tossed around in trade buzz are of course guys like Maxx Crosby and Trey Hendrickson, but the price tags on those two are likely way out of Poles' budget if Glazer's report is to be believed.

The Bengals still want a first-round pick for Hendrickson, which the Bears would be silly to offer up in exchange for a 30-year-old pass rusher in line for a top-tier contract extension. Crosby also feels like a pipe dream. It would be shocking if Las Vegas parted ways with him.

Maybe, the most realistic target could be Bradley Chubb from the Miami Dolphins. At one point, he was a splashy name. The 29-year-old has dealt with his fair share of injuries, though, and missed all of 2024 with a torn ACL. So far this season, he's posted 4.0 sacks.

Chubb's contract is also a point of tension, though, so I wouldn't suspect he's a slam-dunk for Poles either.

Maybe, Glazer is right. Let's hope Chicago adds talent, regardless, at the right positions.
