The Chicago Bears could go a lot of different ways with their first-round pick. However, as the days to the draft are getting closer, one insider may be hinting that the Bears are going one of two ways with their first pick.Â
Albert Breer, one of the more plugged-in NFL Insiders, did a review of all 32 and listed one thing that fans should know before draft week. For the Bears, he said the key is that the pick could easily come down to edge rusher or offensive tackle.Â
"Since acquiring Montez Sweat three years ago (Sweat turns 30 in September—time flies), Chicago has been looking for his bookend. With the sorts of big, long ends that Dennis Allen likes, with Auburn’s Keldric Faulk and Missouri’s Zion Young possibly available, this could be the year they find one. Left tackle is another spot to keep an eye on. The team really liked Ozzy Trapilo as a rookie, but he tore his patellar tendon, throwing his future into flux (and making his ability to play at all in 2026 uncertain) and pushing the team to bring back Braxton Jones for another run and take a flier on former first-rounder Jedrick Wills Jr. So given what GM Ryan Poles and HC Ben Johnson typically value, it’d hardly be a shock for the Bears to pick up another potential long-term answer at the position"Albert Breer
Will the Chicago Bears draft an offensive tackle or an edge rusher in the first round?
This makes sense. First, edge rusher is arguably their biggest need, and Breer notes that they have let it go for far too long. They have a great chance to address it this year. While Rueben Bain, David Bailey, and Akheem Mesidor might be off the board by then, Keldric Faulk and Zion Young are great fits, and there is a real chance that T.J. Parker will also be on the board for that pick. They can take one of these top edges on their board.Â
However, if the run on edges does not go the way that they like, the team could shift to offensive tackle. Blake Miller, Max Iheanachor, Kadyn Proctor, and Caleb Lomu all could be on the board for this pick. Between Lomu, Miller, Iheanachor, Proctor, Parker, Young, and Faulk, you could easily have narrowed it down to the final list of players that the Bears would select in round 1. That is according to Breer, at least.Â
The positions he does not mention but is often mocked to the Bears are safety and defensive tackle. This is mostly Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at safety, but sometimes Dillon Thieneman is involved. At defensive tackle, they often mock Kayden McDonald and Peter Woods. However, Breer does not mention either position.Â

There is a case to be made that, while McNeil-Warren is worthy of the pick, the Bears have too many other needs and can address safety later. He is also the most likely to be gone by then. On the other end, McDonald and Woods are the two who could be considered reaches if the Bears took them with the 25th overall pick. So, it makes sense why Breer would lean toward the other two positions, despite reports suggesting otherwise.Â
