NFL insider's prediction for Bears' next head coach isn't who you think it is

Chalk this one up as mixed feelings from some Bears fans.

At this point, it is anyone's guess who the Chicago Bears are going to hire as their next head coach.

The process that started out with many of us thinking the Bears are simply doing their due diligence with a good amount of candidates and in their "wide net" approach has quickly turned into a wide circus tent type of coaching search.

General manager Ryan Poles is under fire from many fans because of this process which has seemingly snowballed out of control. It's enough to generate belly laughs at this point. The Bears aren't just picking the top few, select candidates to interview.

Poles has shown interest in darn-near 20 coaching candidates to date.

And, one NFL insider has attempted to comb through all the hair. ESPN's Dan Graziano put out his latest column on Tuesday morning and gave a prediction as to who he believes the Bears are going to hire.

No, it's not Mike McCarthy who is now a legitimate candidate in Chicago.

More Bears news:

No, it's not Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson whom the majority of fans want to see hired.

Graziano's choice? Current Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores.

Brian Flores predicted to be the next Chicago Bears head coach

"The Bears' list of candidates is massive, and Flores still hasn't been allowed to interview with Chicago because Minnesota made the playoffs. But this is the name that comes up the most when I ask people around the NFL to make a prediction," Graziano wrote.

This is certainly a choice the morning after the Vikings defense was shredded by Matthew Stafford and Sean McVay's offense. The old saying "defense wins championships" didn't exactly ring true for the league's no. 5 scoring defense during the regular season.

Not only did Flores' defense get embarrassed in the playoffs, but there are still questions about Flores as a head coach because of how he treated Tua Tagovailoa while coaching the Miami Dolphins.

The questions regarding Flores' treatment of Tua certainly come into play when thinking of him coaching Caleb Williams in Chicago.

Of course, coming in as the new head coach, Flores would likely have to present a plan for how he's going to help develop Williams. He'll also want to sell Poles on his belief in Williams. The Bears did invest the no. 1 pick into Williams, after all. Flores will have to do a good job on that pitch.

Flores might be a great coach to have for the defensive side of the ball, sure. But, is he going to do what's necessary to garner team success, as a whole? That's the big question he'll need to answer.
