It's been one of the hottest topics around the NFL for a few days, now, and some Chicago Bears fans can't get away from the idea of seeing Myles Garrett in the navy and orange.
Since Garrett requested a trade away from the Cleveland Browns, storylines have run rampant in regards to the situation. One of the overarching aspects of the story, though, is the fact that Browns general manager Andrew Berry has refused to trade Garrett. He remains grounded in that stance, too.
But, there are those who believe that, eventually, Berry will have to cave. After all, the Browns are in a tough spot with their quarterback room and look like a team that might have to truly rebuild in some facets, soon.
Meanwhile, the Bears are a team on the rise after hiring Ben Johnson to be their new head coach. With quarterback Caleb Williams, some strong weapons and pieces together on the defense, maybe Chicago does make sense as a landing spot for Garrett.
NFL insider James Palmer makes sense of a Myles Garrett-Bears trade
In a recent video, NFL insider James Palmer tackled some of the heavy-hitting questions around the league right now, including the Garrett situation. Along with tossing out the Commanders, Lions and, yes, the Packers, Palmer also put the Bears into the mix as a team which makes sense.
"The Bears ... rookie deal for the quarterback, obviously. They have the picks to make it work. They have the money to make it work, honestly," Palmer said.
He's not wrong. The Bears enter this offseason with four picks inside the top-72 of the 2025 NFL Draft and are sitting inside the top-6 in terms of salary cap space for free agency, pending cuts and restructures.
Garrett in Chicago would be a dream for this defense, and Palmer knows it.
"I think he'd make Montez Sweat exponentially better, immediately," the insider went on.
More Bears news:
Garrett and Sweat on the same line would be a fierce duo, for sure. However, the one lingering question for the Bears after a deal like this would be how exactly they plan to protect Caleb Williams.
What would they give up in terms of picks? Would it be multiple first rounders and additional picks in this year's draft? What kind of opportunity would the Bears still have to put together a formidable offennsive line?
In free agency, let's assume they could sign one of the top interior linemen. That effectively gives them three starters including Darnell Wright and Braxton Jones. Then, go address center and the other guard position in the draft or maybe spend a medium amount on the former in free agency.
There are a few ways this could go. But, the bottom line is this: if the Bears wound up landing Garrett, Ben Johnson would have a firm plan in place to address protecting his quarterback. You better believe that.
