Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles has kept a low profile over the offseason with his team in terms of making any kind of trades.
Poles had the big one by moving DJ Moore off the roster to the Buffalo Bills, but really, aside from that and the NFL Draft, he has stayed quiet. Bleacher Report writer Moe Moton named one player on each team who should be considered for a trade, and for the Bears, Poles is urged to seriously consider sending backup quarterback Tyson Bagent elsewhere.
"Williams doesn't have a concerning injury history. So, Chicago's primary backup quarterback could be a clipboard holder for the foreseeable future. If so, Bagent's trade value will be stagnant in the final two years of his deal. If the Bears get a strong offer for Bagent, they should consider taking the draft capital for a player who may not see the field in the regular season."
Bears should think about trading Tyson Bagent away
Bagent has been a great backup quarterback for the Bears since 2023, after going 2-2 in his rookie season. Since then, though, he has not been called upon to do much, as Caleb Williams has started in all 34 games in 2024 and 2025 combined.
The big selling point for Bagent is that he has been developing under Bears head coach Ben Johnson, and everyone wants to copy off of his homework. Bagent has recently shown off his athleticism, with the Bears at times lining him up as a receiver decoy. That's because Bagent can run out of the pocket when he needs to use his legs.
There was a lot of talk over the offseason about Bagent potentially being trade bait, with the Arizona Cardinals rumored to be interested in him. Despite no trade happening, many think Bagent could go in the third round or as a high Day 3 selection.
The Bears could live without Bagent, as Case Keenum would still make for a very good backup quarterback. They also have undrafted rookie Miller Moss, and if he becomes a solid quarterback, he could be the Bears' third-stringer.

Chicago shouldn't rush to trade Bagent, but if the options are really solid, the Bears shouldn't ignore the chance to move him for a draft pick.
