This 2026 Chicago Bears undrafted rookie class has a lot of potential to create some noise on the roster or on the practice squad.

While the popular names have been offensive lineman Caden Barnett and running back Coleman Bennett, others on the team could make an impact in 2026. One name that hasn't been brought up as much but might be a player worth monitoring is Oregon State defensive back Skyler Thomas.

Bleacher Report writer Gary Davenport named Thomas as his undrafted rookie who is the most exciting on the Bears.

"Thomas led Oregon State in total tackles each of the past two seasons, and per Lance Zierlein of NFL.com, the safety has demonstrated some real upside over his collegiate career: 'Long safety prospect with intriguing man-cover talent against 'F' tight ends, which could earn him a longer look from NFL scouts. Thomas moves around the field like a big cornerback, utilizing good short-area quickness and smooth transitions in coverage. He's capable in some split-safety looks and is impressive when asked to press pass-catching tight ends working from the slot.' Thomas' long speed isn't great, and he needs to improve as a tackler. But the Bears are re-making their safety room on the fly this year, and he also possesses more than a little special teams potential."

Could Skyler Thomas make the 53-man roster in Chicago?

Last season with the Beavers, Thomas racked up 78 tackles, four pass deflections, and one interception. While he has solid coverage skills, he has great instincts for getting to the ball carrier.

Most likely, Thomas will have to make the roster through special teams and take the same path that Bears cornerback Josh Blackwell has taken. If Thomas can prove that he can run down in coverage on kickoffs and do it well, then he should be able to sneak onto the roster.

It's not going to be easy for Thomas, but he has the potential to make the team if he plays well in preseason.
