Oh, those Green Bay Packers are always up to something at Lambeau Field, as their recent experiment might only help the Chicago Bears.
At offseason workouts, the Packers played wide receiver Bo Melton at cornerback after they released cornerback Jaire Alexander from the team. Packers head coach Matt LaFleur wanted to try out Melton to see if he could be a Travis Hunter-type dual-position player.
"We just thought that if there is somebody that can potentially do both, he would be that guy," LaFleur said, via The Associated Press. "I think a lot of it is just from his production on (special) teams and just his ability to make plays on teams."
This is only good news for the Bears
A move like this from Green Bay could only be seen as an act of desperation, knowing that they might not have the depth needed at cornerback. Having someone like Melton play both ways could also save the team money if he proves decent at cornerback.
Bears fans can only be more excited about what's to come in 2025. After adding first-round pick tight end Colston Loveland and second-round wide receiver Luther Burden III along with their returning studs in Rome Odunze, D.J. Moore, and Cole Kmet will only make quarterback Caleb Williams' life easier against Green Bay. Also, an improved offensive line with three new starters in Joe Thuney, Drew Dalman, and Jonah Jackson only makes it sweeter.
After suffering through an 11-game losing streak against the Packers, the Bears ended the streak at the end of the 2024 campaign with a 24-22 win over Green Bay. Despite losing the first 2024 season matchup in November, Chicago was a missed field goal away from sweeping the season series.

The vibe feels different in 2025 as the Bears have a new head coach in Ben Johnson, whose specialty is fixing offenses. His newly retooled unit looks like a nightmare for defenses like the Packers, who are weaker in the secondary than a season ago.
Williams has the pieces in place to succeed and is getting help from his rivals to make 2025 easier. At the rate the Packers are going, the Bears could be well on their way to a massive turnaround this season.
