Things are finally starting to look up for Chicago sports, as the Chicago Bears appear to have found something with Caleb Williams at quarterback while the Chicago Cubs try to fortify their playoff lineup around star young center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong.

As the Cubs are trying their best to secure the top wild card spot in the National League, Craig Counsell's crew took down a fellow playoff hopeful in the New York Mets 10-3 on Wednesday night. One of the highlight plays of the night was a PCA special that would have made even the unaware impressed.

Crow-Armstrong, who many believe to be the fastest player in the league, scored from second on a wild pitch in that game. To hear him tell it, Crow-Armstrong channeled the essence of Williams during his run, as he needed to be able to "scan the field like our boy Caleb does" in order to pull off such a daring and risky move.

Like Williams, Crow-Armstrong has had a few bumps in the road during his first few seasons. His 2024 season saw him put up wholly below-average numbers as a hitter that made fans question his long-term potential, and he went through a major summer slump that saw his power fizzle out.

However, PCA has rebounded to the point where he is one home run away from a 30-30 season on a Cubs team that will make it to the playoffs. Year 2 has been much more fruitful for Williams as well, as his seven touchdown passes are behind only Lamar Jackson through three games.

The young stars in Chicago sports are all flashing, irrespective of their team's record. In addition to PCA and Williams flexing the immense talent that has made them a household attraction, Bulls youngster Matas Buzelis appears to be the real deal, and Blackhawks budding sensation Connor Bedard has all the potential in the world.

After years of misery in the Windy City, both Crow-Armstrong and Williams are starting to look like players who can get their teams turned around and molded into forces that can make some noise when the playoffs come calling.
