The Chicago Bears had a memorable 2025 season, making a run in the playoffs, but the offseason has still raised questions for the team.
Chicago knows it has some holes on its roster that need to be filled before the 2026 season begins, including on defense. Really, all three levels of defense need to be addressed, but one is more glaring than the others, and the evidence has now been shown for that.
Pro Football Focus has been slowly releasing its list of the highest graded players at each position. PFFÂ just shared their top 20 graded players at defensive tackle and edge rusher, which any Bears fans assumed that nobody on the roster making the articles would be 100% correct, as that is exactly what happened.
Bears have zero players in top 20 at DT and DE
Really, there are maybe two players that the Bears can consider their best on the defensive line. Bears defensive end Montez Sweat led the team in sacks last year with 10, and coming in second was defensive tackle Gervon Dexter Sr. with six.
One note before completely bashing the position: Austin Booker finished with 4.5 sacks over the last 10 games of the season after missing the first half of the year due to injury. Booker definitely has a chance to be a great edge rusher on this team, as he played well late in the year.
That said, 2025 free agent signings like Grady Jarrett and Dayo Odeyingbo really set the franchise back a bit. Both guys got three-year deals worth over $40 million each last offseason, and neither guy produced at the level they needed to.
It has left the Bears in a hole this offseason, with a lot of money being given to guys who are not getting the job done. Chicago will be active in the next month, with the most likely being an elite edge rusher like Trey Hendrickson or Maxx Crosby. The 2026 NFL Draft should provide some much-needed help for the Bears on the defensive line as well.

Chicago is going to have an interesting offseason as they have some massive decisions to make, but they know something has to be done with a defensive line that only got 35 sacks in 17 games and ranked 29th in total defense last season.
