Latest post-draft intel may remind Bears fans of a painful trade that failed

New Chicago Bears rookie tight end Colston Loveland has been no stranger to comparisons since being drafted by the Bears. You often hear Travis Kelce or Sam LaPorta associated with his name, but now that he has been drafted by the Chicago Bears, a new name has floated as a strong comparison, for good and bad reasons.

Dan Pomei of The Athletic shared that he heard Greg Olsen's name come up when discussing Loveland.

Is Colston Loveland comparable to Greg Olsen?

The good news? Olsen turned into a stud of an NFL tight end. He had a 14-year career, he made multiple All-Pro teams and he played and performed well in massive playoff games. If Loveland can turn into a Greg Olsen-type player, the pick will be worth it

However, it also hits hard for Bears fans to hear it, considering the team did draft Olsen, and of course, the worst years of his career were in Chicago. Once the Bears traded Olsen to Carolina, he was able to ascend into the player that we know him for today. Meanwhile, the Bears are just hoping to find the next one, and they have not found an All-Pro caliber option since.

The hope now is that Ben Johnson and Ryan Poles are not only wiser but also more patient as they allow the tight end a chance to develop in the NFL. It often takes tight ends a few years to blossom, but with Johnson calling the plays, he may also be able to get Loveland some confidence-building plays in the meantime.

Beyond that, the environment and roster should be better to help him grow into his role.

If Loveland can become the version of Olsen that Bears fans remember, the pick is going to be worth number ten overall.
