We are less than a week away from the start of the 2024 NFL season. There were not as many surprises this year when it came to the Chicago Bears' 53-man roster. We made projections on our podcast at the Halas Huddle and came relatively close to nailing the outcome. The players we ended up getting wrong, we at least mentioned everyone but Travis Homer as other possibilities. Part of the problem we had was predicting both IR spots. We correctly predicted Larry Borom but did not get Jacob Martin correct. Martin was instead our backup IR option.
One player we had making the final roster was Reddy Steward. I was at least surprised to see Steward clear waivers and return to the Bears' practice squad. He looks to have a nose for the football and if given the opportunity I think he could prove to be a valuable asset in a defensive backfield. The Chicago Bears have a very good and deep cornerback room, though, and it might be difficult for him to find playing time.
When it comes to NFL teams, the 53-man roster that they initially declared is never the 53-man roster by the end of the season. Injuries can derail things, but many times guys at the bottom of the roster will be shaken up. This can be because guys on the practice squad improve or because teams decide they need depth at different positions. Let's take a look at three guys on the Bears' roster who are likely not going to be on the 53-man roster once we get to Week 5 of the season.
