3 Chicago Bears who will likely be off the 53-man roster by Week 5

There are three names I could see who are candidates to not be on the 53-man roster by Week 5 of the 2024 NFL season.

Travis Homer, RB

Seeing Travis Homer on the initial 53-man roster was a bit of a surprise to me. Had the Chicago Bears decided to keep four running backs I assumed they would have designated Velus Jones as a running back instead of as a wide receiver. Instead, the team kept the same receivers I originally anticipated with Velus and Deandre Carter taking those final two spots, but I had Velus as a hybrid RB/WR role.

We saw Homer make the initial 53-man roster last season. However, he didn't bring anything to the table on offense. He only saw 1% of the team's snaps last season. He had one target and didn't even haul in the catch. In fact, what's worse is that it was designated a drop. Yikes.

Some might say he's important to special teams but I scoff at that one. He did see 61% of the team's special teams snaps in 2023. However, he only finished the year with seven combined tackles. I'm going to bet the team could find equal or better production from a different player who could contribute in other and better ways.

If Chicago finds that they need to make room for a different player at a different position, Homer would be one of the first guys I'd consider cutting and putting on the practice squad.
