3 Chicago Bears players listed on PFF's Preseason Week 1 awards
Caleb Williams was the highlight of the Chicago Bears' preseason victory over the Buffalo Bills this past Saturday.
Saturday's victory showed the Bears' overall improvement in their roster. From top to bottom, the Bears have players capable of winning jobs on other teams across the NFL. Sure, Williams was impressive, but the main takeaway should be that the Bears' roster is trending in the right direction.
Considering Williams only played a total of two series, it's no surprise that Pro Football Focus snubbed the quarterback for their team of the week award for the first week of the NFL preseason but there were three notable Bears' players listed.
3 Bears players named to PFF's Team of the Week for preseason Week 1
- Teven Jenkins, Left Guard
Considering the limited snaps that the Bears' offensive starters had on Saturday, it is impressive that Jenkins earned the highest marks. Having said that, it's more validation that when Jenkins is healthy, he is the best offensive lineman the Bears have. Health will be an important factor for Jenkins in 2024, as that may be what determines whether he remains with the Bears after this season.
- Doug Kramer, Center
Bears fans have had a close eye on the center position in recent seasons given the struggles the team has had at the position. Coleman Shelton is making a late push in training camp to be the starting center but there remains the expectation that Bates will win the job. Kramer being healthy gives the Bears some much needed depth at the center position this season and shouldn't leave the team the scrambling in-season in the event of an injury.
- Micah Baskerville, Linebacker.
Baskerville was a standout performer in the Bears' victory on Saturday. While the Bears have a crowded depth chart at linebacker, if Baskerville continues to make plays like he did on Saturday, he will be increasing his chances of making the 53-man roster.
