1. Jonah Elliss, Edge, Utah
The Chicago Bears should be looking to draft an edge rusher or interior defensive lineman on day two. They do not have many glaring needs outside of these two picks, and there will be enough players on the board that they should be able to find a fit. One player that would be fascinating is Jonah Elliss.
Elliss is a good fit, but a different fit than Trice. With Trice, you have an edge setter and a run stuffer first. The sacks can come from pushing the pocket and holding his own with hustle plays. On the flip side, Elliss is not as strong at the point of contact. However, he is long and angular and provides a higher pass-rushing ceiling.
On one hand, Matt Eberflus clearly values run defense with his edge rushers. On the other hand, the team has Montez Sweat, who is great in both areas, but then they have DeMarcus Walker and Jacob Martin, who are both better as run defenders. It would make sense to get some pass-rushing upside and then potentially hope for him to grow as a pass-rusher. If this is the route that the team goes, they will be looking into someone like Jonah Elliss.
