3 obvious Chicago Bears 2024 NFL Draft Predictions
3. Getting more weapons
The flashy choice for the Chicago Bears with the ninth overall selection could be Brian Thomas Jr. Many would call me crazy. Well, who is the best receiver in the NFL? Who said to keep drafting receivers in that 2020 draft class because it's stacked? I didn't expect Justin Jefferson to become the best receiver in the league, but I expected him to become a good one. I believe I said he could become an Alshon Jeffery-like player. Boy, was I wrong, but the league was as well.
Brian Thomas Jr is a stud. Picture Chris Johnson (CJ2K) as a 6'3 receiver. That is my best comparison. Thomas is a slimmer version of Dk Metcalf and Josh (Flash) Gordon. Thomas loves blocking, according to his interviews, and has shown on tape that he is a willing run blocker. Matt Eberflus and Ryan Poles love pass blocking receivers. Imagine having a receiver coach who worked with Keenan Allen, Allen himself, and DJ Moore, teaching Tomas all of the tricks they have. Jaxon Smith-Nijigba (JSN) and his trio of receivers with Shane Waldron were great, but this would be even better.
Mini Mock
1st overall Caleb Williams QB
9th overall Brain Thomas Jr WR
**Trade** Jets wanted to come up
Jets offered: 111, F-R3, 134
Bears give: 75
111th Leonard Taylor III DL
122nd Jaylen Harrell ED
**Trade** Buffalo wanted to come up
Bills offered: 144, 160
Bears give: 134, F-R6, F-R6 (Mia)
144th Drake Nugent OC
160th Solomon Byrd ED
I would get into the players, but this is only a mini-mock. Here's a quick rundown:
- Caleb Williams proves he is the quarterback of the future.
- Brain Thomas Jr. becomes the team's deep threat.
- Leonard Taylor is an interior rusher to complement the young core.
- Jaylen Harrell is an edge rusher with length and experience, unlike Robinson
- Drake Nugent can learn in the background but had experience with the national champions and Jim Harbaugh.
- Solomon Byrd was the only bright thing on the USC defense that was trash. Add more competition to the edge department.
