1. Would the Chicago Bears move on from Gerald Everett?
Gerald Everett is probably disappointed that he signed with the Chicago Bears. He signed before the team added Keenan Allen and Rome Odunze. He went from a potential high-quality option in the offense to an after thought very quickly.
Even worse than that is seeing the team re-sign Marcedes Lewis. Lewis is what he is, but that skill set is valuable in the NFL. He is a blocker first and foremost. That is not what Everett is, he is a better pass-catching tight end.
Still, the Bears now have enough quality pass catchers in the receiving room, and when they get the extra tight end on the field you would like that for that player to be a blocker because it will open up Cole Kmet as a pass catcher. If Kmet is the better blocker of the two, he is being limited in what he can bring to the offense.
Everett may have a role, but he is low in the receiving order, and may not have much hope as a second tight end either. Everett may ask for a fresh start, and while the Bears do not owe it to him, and like him as depth, if a younger tight end makes it hard to cut, the team should not hesitate to keep Everett around.
