3 positive takeaways from the Chicago Bears extending D.J. Moore
1. Caleb Williams gets DJ Moore throughout his rookie contract
As noted, D.J. Moore will be here through the 2029 season. With Caleb Williams on his rookie contract, the Bears will have him through the 2028 season, assuming they pick up his fifth-year option.
So, for the entirety of Caleb William's time with the Bears, he will have Moore, and fellow rookie Rome Odunze. That is a great support system to build up.
The Bears will get to see what Williams brings to the table and there will be no excuses about the lack of weapons around him. If he struggles, fans will know it is on him.
More than that, while the Bears are paying Moore, they will not be paying Williams. The hope would be that when Moore is 32 and Williams has to get a huge chunk of the salary cap, the Bears would have drafted a replacement to supplement the expense with a contract. The timing works out for Williams to ascend with help, and then as he becomes the leader and veteran, the Bears will be letting guys like Moore leave.
