1. The Chicago Bears picked up a rental player

His decline in play, along with the new coaching staff were key reasons for the trade. More than that, the team obviously had no interest in extending Taylor. Taylor is in year four of his rookie deal. He is going to be a free agent after this season barring an extension, and an extension this close to the season would be surprising on both ends.

So, the odds are that the Bears added a rental player. He could certainly succeed and re-sign with the team, but that may not happen. This is why the Bears parted with a fifth-round pick for Taylor.

We saw on Hard Knocks that Ryan Poles did not want to lose a third-round pick for Matthew Judon unless he knew that Judon would re-sign with the team. Poles are more willing to add a rental player if the cost is just a fifth-round pick.
